15.09.202613:22:41UTC+00Baltic Dry Index Down for 4th Day

The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk freight index, which measures shipping rates for vessels transporting dry bulk commodities, fell for a fourth consecutive session on Tuesday, declining about 2.5% to 3,360 points—its lowest level since September 2. The weakness was driven by larger vessel segments.

The capesize index, which tracks ships that typically carry around 150,000 tons of cargo such as iron ore and coal, dropped 3.8% to 5,687 points amid increased iron ore shipments. The panamax index, reflecting vessels that usually haul 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, slipped 1.2% to 2,364 points. In contrast, the supramax index edged up 0.6% to 1,736 points.
