2026.09.1507:06:02UTC+00Hungary Industrial Output Slows Sharply in July

Hungary’s industrial production rose by 4.7% year-on-year in July 2026, slowing from the 10.1% increase recorded in June. The deceleration was largely driven by manufacturing (4.9% vs 10.8% in June). Within manufacturing, output growth eased but remained robust in transport equipment (18.0% vs 21.0%) and in computer, electronic and optical products (19.7% vs 49.7%), which continued to be major contributors to overall expansion.

By contrast, production accelerated in chemicals and chemical products (15.0% vs 12.6%) as well as in coke and refined petroleum products (7.2% vs 5.4%). Meanwhile, output of food, beverages and tobacco products stayed in contraction (-2.3% vs -1.5%), and the performance of electrical equipment weakened further, shifting from modest growth to a sharper decline (-6.0% vs 1.8%).

On a seasonally and working-day adjusted monthly basis, industrial output increased by 1.7% in July, offsetting the 1.4% drop seen in June. Over the first seven months of 2026, industrial production stood 2.7% higher than in the same period of 2025.
